Artist Comments:
This is the first of a bigger series, based on the presence of animals in different mythologies and religions of the world. In some of the pieces I'll try to even mix in two or more myths, create an ambiguous character, which combines positive and negative meanings. The pieces in the series won't be very similar as sizes, techniques, mediums - I'm working on different formats, sizes, canvases, pieces of wood, paper, etc. This first piece - 25x25 cm, acrylic on canvas - is based on the Huginn and Muninn characters in Norse mythology - they're a pair of ravens, Huginn means Thought, and Muninn means Memory - and they fly all over the world and bring information to Odin, the main god in Norse mythology. The two ravens are associated with Odin's intellectual powers, and the fact that he can send them away, is related to the shamanic trance, in which the shape-shifting soul travels the universe, outside the Shaman's body.
