Biography
XTRABOLD™ was established in 2007 as a digital playground, sharing creative digital experiments by young self-taught designer Nelson Balaban. Since then, Nelson, under his creative alias, has been recognized as a "successful prodigy" in both graphic design and illustration fields. After his first major comission from Ultramerch/Cansei de Ser Sexy, his client list has grown fast and currently lists established names such as Nike, Camel Cigarettes, Tronic Studio, Adidas Originals, DivX, Imagine Publishing, Bread & Butter Barcelona, The Keystone Design Union and Computer Arts Projects.
As a long-time member of depthCORE, Nelson has been continuously expanding his skills as digital artist by sharing technics and making collaborative artworks with talented, like-minded people in the field. Besides contributing for magazines and books, Nelson is involved with the respectable people from The Keystone Design Union - The KDU, where he shares connections and experiences as a proud member.
Balaban's wide range of disciplines, such as typography, print, editorial and motion design (styleframes), makes him a perceived professional for his versatility and complex artistic arrangements. His artworks feature diaphanous yet intricate compositions, symbols and hidden meanings as well as vivid color combinations, extracted from dreams and quotidian experiences.
As working and participating in the design community, actively contributing in typography/design newsportals such as TypeNeu™, Nelson keeps busy offline reading books, enjoying music, attending shows, travelling and having fun with his girlfriend just like any ordinary boy does.
